Creating trust in an iwi relationship

Liz Mellish is the current Chair of the Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust. As of March last year, the Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust had total assets worth $90 million. Liz has been involved in many sectors as a trustee, adviser and member including charitable trusts, business, local government and the not for profit sector.

Part of the baby boomer generation, her training in iwi affairs and politics began at an early age watching her uncles deal with post-war Māori urban drift, local government leadership and land issues. And she’s still heeding those lessons as a trustee of the Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust which she joined in 1994.
